The day kicks off at 9.30am and runs until 4pm. Work will be on display from the array of groups that use the library, and they’ll be a chance to talk to group members about what goes on at the Library.

There will be a local history display, photos and artefacts, an art deco book display (the Library has an art deco interior complete with wood panelling) as well as a local history quiz for adults and activity sheets for children.

No need to wait til May 16th to participate in the library's 70th birthday celebrations. The Art Deco book display is already in place in the main library at Cobbett road, with many books showing the huge range of exciting designs which came out of the late twenties and thirties. Tableware, glass ware, furniture, fashion and architecture are all featured in these lovely books, many of which have lavish illustrations and photographs throughout.
In the community room, further exhibits supplement the book display:they include an
impressive poster of the 'Normandie'- an ocean liner whose style typifies the splendour of ocean travel, so much a part of our City's history.
There's lots more to come in the next few days of course, and Saturday is our Big Day. So, switch off that telly (you know it's all rubbish) and pop in to our library, and celebrate.

Cobbett Road Library is a vital part of the Bitterne Park community and since the threatened closure has gone from strength to strength, largely as a result of the hard work put in by the Friends of Cobbett Road Library. I would urge everyone to come along and join in the celebrations on Saturday. The more support the library has from the local community the more difficult it will be for a future budget committe decide to save a few pounds by closing it. A wonderful library with friendly helpful staff.

The Friends Group will be putting some more plants in the borders at Cobbett Road Library on Thursday this week, ready for the Anniversary celebrations. If anyone has any plants (especially tall ones that don't mind drought and shade)they can donate and bring along on Thursday it would help make the borders look better! We'll be there from 10am, till at least lunchtime.
Thanks!!!
