Family fun day in Riverside Park to launch Sarah Merritt Foundation
A family fun day in Riverside Park will mark the official launch of the Sarah Merritt Foundation on Saturday July 26 from 12-4pm.
Sarah was brutally murdered as she went about her work as a home carer in Southampton in March 2007. You can read more about the Foundation’s aims on its website here.
The event will feature a dedication of the Foundation and official opening by Sarah’s husband Peter and mum Margaret, assisted by the Town Crier and Connect Youth Band. The fun day will be opened by the Right Worshipful The Mayor and Mayoress of Southampton. John Denham MP will be attendance.
Demonstrations throughout the day will include Sumo Wrestling, Karate, African drummers with arts and crafts, Bitterne Park School Jazz Band, and Jonathon the Jester with his marvellous Millennium Mini top.
There will also be marquees with stands from a range of local organisations including Hampshire Constabulary Knife Campaign, Hampton Trust, Flower of Justice, Woodmill Outdoor Centre, Neighbourhood Involvement, Northam 521 Youth Project, Scouting Movement and C.I.S (Children’s Information Service).
Organisers hope the day will give exhibitors a good platform to demonstrate the wealth of opportunities available, and to enlist plenty of new recruits.
