In what appears to be an act of pointless anti-social behaviour, this bench in the field at Deepdene has been bent backwards over a period of time to become virtually flat, while a new bench and sign in Marlhill Copse has also been vandalised within days of being installed.

This previous shot, below, shows the Deepdene seat at an earlier stage in its treatment, before someone presumably had another go at it, rendering it fairly useless for sitting, and perhaps more useful for sun lounging.
Meanwhile Southampton Airport has reported that a new hand-carved signpost with bench built around it, pictured below, which was revealed at Marlhill Copse on July 13 was graffitied twice within seven days - one incident within 24 hours of installation.
It’s still in situ, but will be subject to repair work.
The airport, which bought Marlhill Copse, said the graffiti on the seat was “anti-airport in content”.
It’s promised “further features for the education and enjoyment of the local community” at the Copse over the summer, “including information display boards which provide detailed insight into the history of the copse and the species of plant and wildlife that live within it”.
