It was reported, here and here, that two cyclists sadly lost their lives in cycling accidents before Christmas, and many will remember that cyclist Alessandro Filipik, or Sandro as he was known, who used to run Bitterne Park Triangle café Il Picchio, sadly died in a cycling accident in May 2016.

YoBikes

In other cycling news, rentable YoBikes seem to have been popping up everywhere since the scheme’s launch in Southampton in September 2017.

YoBike says it offers riders a “seamless, hassle-free experience. By using a mobile app, riders can find and unlock YoBikes at hundreds of parking spots – and ride them for just £1 per hour”.

YoBike works in partnership with Southampton-based social enterprise, Monty’s Bike Hub, based in Sholing, to help perform maintenance and service checks on the cycle fleet.

HSBC City Ride

Meanwhile there will be an Sky Ride HSBC City Ride – a celebratory cycling event enabling riders of all ages and abilities to ride together on traffic-free routes – on Sunday, June 12  on Sunday June 17, 2018.

Triangle changes?

Finally in this roundup, the Cycling Campaign says Southampton City Council is expected to “get back in touch later in January regarding the redesign of the Triangle to improve its safety and ease of use for pedestrians and cyclists”.

Once plans are made available, it’s thought a consultation will be launched. Read background in our previous report here.
