There was a record turnout of 22 people for the last Bitterne Litter Pick of the year.

The volunteers meet up to blitz Bitterne litter hotspots for just one hour, usually every three weeks..

Organiser David Eddy reported this time the group targeted the car park in West End Road, West End Road itself and the Lances Hill car park.

“Unfortunately, we were faced with huge amounts of rubbish today including a lot of fly tipping around the recycle bins opposite Sainsbury’s West End Road,” he said.

“There was also fly tipping at the inner end of the Lances Hill Car Park and which Councillor Lewzy is looking at.

Detective work

“There was a car battery, cycle tyre and we found a stolen wallet which, due to some incredible detective work on my behalf, I have already returned to the brother of the owner who lives in Basset.

“All in all, an excellent way to end the year.”
