This from Southampton Woodcraft Folk in their own words.

Southampton Woodcraft Folk is a local children’s and young people’s group which meets weekly during term time, as well as having regular camps in the holidays. As well as having bags of fun with activities like craft, singing and games, the focus is on big ideas like co-operation, peace, democracy, equality, internationalism and looking after the planet.

The group is part of a 92 year-old national organisation, now a registered charity, which in turn is part of the International Falcon Movement. It is inclusive, open to all regardless of religion or ability, has girls and boys together and is committed to positive social change.

As a co-operative, it involves young people at all levels from its general council down to planning local group activities.

We are keen to welcome children, young people and their families to join us. Children and parents are welcome to come along to a group session to find out more about what we do. We are a parent/guardian led organisation and all adults running sessions have DBS checks. We ask for a donation of £22 per term to help with the cost of venues and activities, though we can be flexible with siblings attending and if money is tight.

Our groups meet in City Centre for 'Elfins' (6-9 years) in Bitterne Park for ‘Pioneers’ (10-12 years) and a new ‘Venturers’ (13-15 years) is due to start also in the Bitterne Park area.

Our 12-minute audio from 2011 featured chats with parents and children to find out what really goes on (clue: not much craft with wood!), and explored a little about the organisation’s history. Click here to go to the audio player and listen.
