They are to enable “investigative work on the condition of the bridge structure”. According to the council's roadworks map "trial holes" will be made.
Temporary signals are expected to be in operation from about 10am on Monday for most of the week.
The bridge will also be closed overnight on Thursday and Friday (Sept 21/ 22) with the removal of the signals due the following Saturday morning.
Although it’s unclear what effect the signals will have on traffic flow, a council spokesperson told bitternepark.info that the work couldn't be carried out during the school holidays “as required resources weren’t available”.
He said the roadworks are unrelated to a brief bridge closure last month.
