Hobbit music signJust a couple of weeks after we reported the crowdfunding efforts of The Joiners, another local music venue is now fundraising, because of what it describes as “crippling” costs.

The Hobbit in Bevois Valley says it “could be forced to close its doors permanently within the next 8 weeks,” and launched its own crowdfunding campaign on August 13 setting a £7,500 goal.

Hobbit main pub signAt the time of writing it had already had £2,230 pledged.

The venue, which hosts everything from an annual Environmental Rock day to reggae beach parties, metal, folk and ska events, says it’s seen continual increases in overheads, particularly in the form of business rates and the Late Night Levy, while its costs are crippling.

The Hobbit’s crowdfunding page is here.
