Bitterne Park is a special place - one of the last real villages in Southampton; you help us all to remember that. Well done!"

A post on Southampton and Romsey Labour Party Events Facebook page announced, cryptically:

“Hearing that Jeremy Corbyn is coming to Southampton next Saturday, 15th July. More details to follow as soon as confirmed but keep the date and spread the word”.

Further down the thread the party notes: “Keep lunchtime on Saturday free. The rest will appear in good time.”

According to the Daily Echo, “It is believed the rally will take place at Guildhall Square from 12noon.”

Corbyn last month reportedly “told buoyant Labour MPs that he will visit at least 65 Conservative marginal seats in preparation for the possible collapse of the Tory minority government and urged them to be a 'government in waiting'”.

At the general election, Conservative Royston Smith won Southampton Itchen, which includes Bitterne Park, by just 31 votes, making the constituency a top target for Labour.

In Southampton Test Labour’s Alan Whitehead increased his majority from 3810 to 11503.
