Arches Open Studios 2015 credit a space artsThe Arches Studios will open its doors to the public for its annual Summer Open Studios this weekend (May 20/21). It's a free event filled with art, workshops, film – and not forgetting craft beer from the Butcher’s Hook!

Located inside converted archways underneath the historic Central Bridge, near Southampton’s Old Town, The Arches is home to 23 studio spaces where locally based artists create their work. Open Studios offers a chance for the public to look around the spaces, meet and chat to the artists, and maybe buy some art.

Due to its yearly increasing popularity, the event has continued to grow. This year’s additions include artist led workshops such as knitting for beginners and improvers with Jilly Evans, pot making with Emily Brown, yoga meditation with Jaime West, and more. All workshops are free and welcome all ages. This year there will also be a screening of short films all exploring LGBT issues, and an Art Book Fair, with stalls run by local art organisations including the John Hansard Gallery, K6 Gallery, and Book Case Press, all displaying and selling art related books.

Craft beer and street food

This year’s Open Studios is shaping up to be a lively weekend, and will be topped off with the return of a craft beer bar run by Bitterne Park micro pub The Butcher’s Hook, as well as street food by locally based Frisky Avocado. Whether you’re interested in seeing quality art, watching some films, learning a new craft with your family, or just want to have a beer in the sun and soak up the atmosphere, there will be something for everyone, and anyone is welcome to attend!

The Arches will be open to the public from 10am to 8pm on Saturday, May 20, and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday, May 21.
