The group says over the year it’s collected “well in excess of 500 bags of litter and really made a difference to the area we live in”, with equipment sponsored by The Humble Plumb and Southampton City Council.

Sixteen volunteers attended on Sunday, and the group says it cleared the Angel Crescent car park area within Peartree ward and the park at the end of Pound Street in Harefield ward.

“It was most heartening to have two enthusiastic young people helping out,” said organiser David Eddy, adding that they’d made a big difference again in just over an hour, “unfortunately including two discarded used needle containers and a mattress”.
