Bryn was also described by one person on Twitter as “a great Bitterne Parker”.

The Brook said on its website:

“It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Bryn Lewis, founder and creator of The Brook, died yesterday following a short illness.

“As an established licensee in Southampton and following on from managing several successful pubs in the city, Bryn acquired The Brook in 1995 and transformed the original pub into the two tier music venue we know and love. He had a simple aim: to create a venue where people could have fun and enjoy live entertainment. Bryn conceived and generated a unique ethos and culture that will continue to live on and from which many, many people have, and will continue to, derive a lot of pleasure.”

You can read the full announcement on The Brook’s website.

Our thoughts are with Bryn’s family and friends.
