This from Age UK Southampton in their own words:
With one older person dying needlessly every seven minutes during the winter, it is important to stay safe by keeping warm and well and being prepared.
A free Winter Wrapped Up guide that contains a thermometer, top tips and advice for keeping warm and well and guidance on how to claim additional help with heating costs, is available now from our offices or can be ordered by calling 023 8036 8636 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. Winter Health campaign messages will also be promoted on our social media channels throughout the remainder of the year until the weather warms using #aukswinter
Key safety messages to remember:
- 70F/21C is the ideal living room temperature
- 64F/18C is the ideal bedroom temperature
- Importantly, if you’re feeling cold then turn up the temperature!
For those wanting to become more active in supporting our work over the winter months, we’re always looking for befriending volunteers to visit lonely and isolated older people in their homes. Alternatively you could get involved with the innocent Big Knit 2016-2017, knitting small hats to raise funds to run our Information and Advice service throughout the winter. For more information on both activities, visit http://www.ageuk.org.uk/southampton/how-you-can-help1/
