Police have issued an update about the situation at Bitterne Road West near the scene of the fire that broke out at the firework shop at around 5am this morning, saying that Bitterne Road West is likely to remain partially closed overnight, and asking motorists to avoid the area.

It is open, however, for motorists coming from Athelstan Road and turning left towards Southampton city centre.
The Itchen Bridge is currently toll-free.
Police say that the fire is "under control" but people are working to isolate the gas main. Most residents – except those living in flats next to or opposite the fire – should apparently be able to return to their homes on foot.
"Any residents unable to go home can go to the community hall on Thorold Road [at the Ascention Centre] where our neighbourhood officers and colleagues from Southampton City Council will be [able] to assist those with any concerns," says the statement.
