Labour retains control of Southampton City Council
Ivan White has held on to his Bitterne Park ward council seat for the Conservatives, beating Labour's Stephen Fenerty by 175 votes. But Labour has retained control of Southampton City Council following local elections on May 5.

In last year's local elections, David Fuller beat Labour's Andrew Godsell by 689 votes.
Over the river in Portswood ward, which includes St Denys, Labour gained their first council seat in what they say is 35 years, with John Savage ousting outgoing Tory mayor Linda Norris. There's more on that here.
The full results in Bitterne Park were:
Jenny Barnes - Green Party - 342
Linda Boulton - Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition - 80
Stephen Fenerty – Labour – 1223
James Read - Liberal Democrat - 261
Ivan White – Conservative - 1398
The council said the overall political makeup of the council is now: Labour 25 (no change). Conservative 19 (-1). CAC 2 (no change). Ind (+1).
Bitterne Park has three ward councillors but the election was for only one of the seats this year. The other two councillors in Bitterne Park are also Conservatives.
