A new 'pop up' fruit and veg shop starts trading on a fortnightly basis at Bitterne Park Triangle on Saturdays from September 20.
Based at Vineyard Church's The Old Chemist (SO18 1NP), The Veg Shed will be run by two local couples, Lorraine and Dave Foskett, and Judi and Rob Galbraith.
“A greengrocer's is quite an important thing. When the other one stopped trading we just thought, this is it, we haven't got anything,” said Lorraine Foskett.
“We'd been toying with the idea of doing a pop-up thing, because we've got other jobs, and we couldn't do something full time straightaway because it's quite a risk. So we thought we could dip our toes in and see if it builds up support. Then it might turn into a bigger project.”
The venture is independent from the church, and the group hopes that selling fresh fruit and veg is also a way of supporting other traders, bringing more people and business to the Triangle.
The Manor Farm fruit and veg shop stopped trading as such in March.
