Woodmill: consultation confusion

WoodmillA city council consultation over the ‘temporary lights’ at Woodmill, and the Bridge’s future use, is finally due to take place in January. However a consultation letter, sent by the council to Townhill Park Residents’ Association asking for responses by December 22, has already been widely circulated by the Association to enable residents to give their views.

But apparently there is “an issue with some of the things in the consultation”, and this will be clarified at a meeting within the council next week.

The letter currently in circulation says the council “has drawn up four options for the area”. These include installing permanent traffic signals with detection equipment to improve traffic flow, closing the bridge except for cyclists and pedestrians, installing ‘build outs’ to restrict the road to 6’ 6” width restrictions, and returning the road to its former layout (which involved no traffic lights).

The ‘consultation proper’ is now said to be scheduled for January, once schools are back and usual traffic flow over the bridge is resumed. Letters will be given out to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists using the bridge, and dropped through letterboxes of properties close by. Whether the survey will be available online has not been decided.

Meanwhile we're told recipients of the existing letter are responding “in their droves”, and these views, and others submitted, will be taken into consideration.
