Free street festival
The Southampton Live Free Street Festival is back this Saturday (July 22) with acrobatics, dance, music, pyrotechnics, and more, from noon until 10.30pm in Guildhall Square and surrounding streets.
The event features performing arts from local, regional and international artists.
There will be an outdoor dance stage with non-stop break dance, Latin, funk, Bollywood and African performances and workshops, while the Music Marquee hosts brass and percussion workshops, a Bollywood Brass Band and the acclaimed Mehboob Khan on sitar and Hanif Khan on tabla.
Local stand ups will entertain spectators in The Laughter Lounge, before the folk sounds of Adem and Friends and jazz talents, Byron Wallen and Indigo, take centre stage.
The Kids Zone will feature non-stop workshops in circus skills, including juggling and stilt-walking. And kids will also get the chance to be part of writing Southampton’s longest poem, listen to story telling, enjoy a puppet theatre and be entertained and astonished by The Remarkables comic walkabout artists and Urban Magik magicians.
The day will culminate at 10pm at the Guildhall car park with a spectacular outdoor finale, combining highly skilled aerial and acrobatic dance, video projections, music, fire and pyrotechnics.
