![]() Photo: Ben Blackhall Circus Starr’s spectacular new yellow and blue big top checks in to Riverside Park from May 28 — 31, bringing family entertainment while helping to raise funds for a local charity. The two-hour all-human show features three of the world’s funniest clown acts, an acrobatic troupe from the Bulgarian State Circus, and international aerial artiste and the UK’s leading ring mistress Tracy Jones, who will present her acclaimed Corde Lisse act on a single rope high above the circus ring. The show will also feature the special sound of a live circus band — from Eastern Europe the musicians of the Wielkiego Cyrku Orkiestra. As well as offering a mix of top-flight acrobatics, breathtaking balancing and non-stop comedy, Circus Starr occupies a unique position in British circus by raising thousands of pounds for local charities from the advance sales of tickets to local businesses. The donations from those sales go towards specialised equipment for hospitals, hospices and other worthy causes. Since taking to the road 19 years ago, the circus has raised more than Ł2 million for local charities, and the Bitterne Park visit will be supporting the Special Care Baby Unit at Princess Ann Hospital. Tickets are available in advance from 0870 167 6177, or from the box office at Riverside Park from May 28. Showtimes will be at 4.45pm and 7.00pm http://www.circus-starr.co.uk/
