Stink over pay and dismissals goes on

rubbish overflowingThe latest 20 hours of talks between unions, the council and ACAS have failed to resolve the dispute over wage cuts and dismissals, with both sides “disappointed” but saying they'd be willing to talk further. Unions are now gearing up for a march on Thursday, June 30 from East Park (12.30pm), which will join a rally of striking teachers and civil servants at the Guildhall Square. Library workers, refuse collectors, street cleaners, toll collectors, parking enforcement officers – and now 20 social care staff will shortly come out on strike.

• There is also a march in Winchester on Saturday 25 – see our earlier story for full details.
