‘Company Shop Southampton’ opened on August 18, “meaning thousands of local people can now benefit from high-quality, low-cost food and household products – helping to stretch family budgets” said a spokesperson.
It’s located on the corner of Hawkeswood Road and Bitterne Road West in the premises previously occupied by camping shop Field & Trek - where a planning application to turn it into a drive-through McDonald’s was refused in 2019.

Surplus stock items “going to waste” are sold typically at around 50% off the normal retail price, says the company.
Membership is open to various key worker categories, including those in the NHS, care services, emergency services, British Armed Forces, prison services, and those in receipt of means tested benefits.
“We look forward to continuing to work closely with everyone and the wider community to help stretch local family budgets. We’d encourage anyone who is eligible for membership to sign up now to access our offers as quickly as possible,” said group managing director Steph McGinty.
