Triangle 1907

This amazing 'pre-clock' image of the Triangle was captured in September 1907!

It's taken from a postcard, and the photographer is situated at the place where the Sayers Memorial Clock was to be placed some years later. We're told that the shop was Knowling's [Post Office] and the Bitterne Park Hotel and roof of the church hall are visible.

Many thanks to John Avery for supplying this image: you can see more local images from times gone by over on the City of Southampton Society's Memory Lane page.

Enchanting
written by Rose Nicole, December 03, 2008
I've recently been looking at old books and maps about Bitterne and Bitterne Park. These old photos are enchanting, as are many old maps of the area.

A booklet "Bitterne on the Map" shows a 1941 OS map with the old tramway going along Bullar Road. It was closed in the late 1940's

How nice to bring back the trams.

From the Station Hotel in Bullar road to the City via the Triangle and St Denys - terminating at the Hythe/Isle of Wight Ferry stop..

"Hold very tight please, Ding ding!!"
