A reader writes: "In December 1938 my family lived at 'Nos Maison', Bitterne Court, Southampton. I am sure this was a bungalow. Does anyone remember where it was and can you tell me if it still exists?" If anyone has any information do let us know and we'll pass it on.
Andrew Wells adds:
William Sutherland Wells (1836-1910), my great grandfather's brother, is noted in family papers as the owner of Bitterne Court. He was a stipendiary magistrate in India, and later a JP in Hampshire. His first wife was Catherine de Lautour (died 1870), by whom he was father of Captain Sir Lionel de L Wells of Houghton Lodge, Hants, who may have lived earlier at Bitterne Court. W S W's second wife was Julia Vanrenen.
I am trying to find information about the history and architecture of Bitterne Court, and the years that the Wells family lived there and owned it (if indeed they did).
I should be grateful if your excellent local historians could advise me at their convenience.
